Wife of Edo Gov, FIDA Plan Advocacy

By Sunday Isuwa
Wife of the Edo state governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki has called on
women in the state to stand by the truth and exhibit a sincerity of
purpose while also urging the International Federation of Women
Lawyers (FIDA) not to relent in helping women and children fight for
their rights

Receiving the Executives of Edo state’s branch of FIDA at the Edo
state government house in Benin City on Thursday, she said the
government would give priority attention to improving the welfare of
children in the state.
Mrs Obaseki also acknowledged the group for their passion and for
identifying with the present administration in its determination to
move the state forward.

She, however, appealed to FIDA to work with the government because the
government would soon commence advocacy programmes across the various
local government areas, which would sensitize women on their rights.

She said government would ameliorate some of their challenges
especially in securing a befitting office secretariat and assisting
them to attend conferences both nationally and internationally.

Meanwhile, FIDA chairperson, Mrs. Edeke Maria Omozele said the body’s
activities included seeking legislative reform to facilitate passing
the bill on equal opportunity aimed at guaranteeing women elevation in
political positions. ELANZANEWS
