Tiv and Fulani communities in Nasarawa State have yesterday signed a peace agreement to end the ongoing killings in the southern senatorial Senatorial District of the state.
This is coming at the time when the two communities have sufferd lost, where many were killed and others displaced, with properties Worth billions of naira destroyed.
The exercise which took place in lafia Thursday, had government and security representative, traditional leaders, other stakeholders and leaders from various communities in the siuther zone who witnesses the peace agreement by the Joint Peace Committee of Tiv and Fulani communities.
Speaking at the occasion, Mohammed Hussaini, Nasarawa State Chairman of the Miyetty Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) said, the meeting was aimed at bringing an end to the killings.
He said that if all the two groups have agreed to stay in peace with each other in their communities, they do not need any security to enforce any peace.
He advised called on all the Fulani people in the state not to take the laws into their hands but report any provocative act to their leaders for onward action.
He therefore said they would step down the same committees in all the affected Local Government Areas of the state.
Similarly, Boniface Ifer, President, Tiv Development Association in the state, said the Tiv in the state are willing to stay in peace with the Fulanis.
He appealed to the Fulanis not to transfer aggression of the implementation of ‘anti open grazing law’ in Benue State to them in Nasarawa.
He therefore assured the public that the Tiv people are fully committed to ensuring peace and promised to expose bad elements among them.
Also commenting, Ardo Lawal Dano, Nasarawa State Chairman of forum of Ardos in Nasarawa said, the Fulanis are equally committed towards given peace a chance.
He also promised that the leadership of Fulani people in the state would give an award to any Fulani community that facilitate the return of Tiv to their deserted community.
