Speaker Dogara To Chair International Human Rights Seminar

Speaker House of Representatives Hon. Yakubu Dogara is slated to chair a high powered International Human Rights Seminar on Global Impact of Terrorism organised by the Save Humanity Advocacy Centre aimed at discussing the economic impact of terrorism around the globe.

The two day seminar which is titled “Global War Against Terrorism: For Nigeria, A Choice Between Law and Life” is slated to hold between 13th and 14th December at the Shehu Musa Yar Adua Centre, Abuja is targeted at intimating stakeholders on various ways to support the anti terror war.

Speaking at a world press conference in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of the Centre, Comr. Ibrahim Abubakar told newsmen that Nigeria has recorded tremendous success in its anti-terrorism campaigns with global impact as attested by credible international researchers around the world, hence the need to involve stakeholders to further consolidate these gains.

The conference will also feature vibrant politicians and activists who will discuss the way forward for the war against terror in Nigeria.

“We have secured the guarantee of vibrant politicians and activists that they will grace the event to share their insights, so we are assured that its various sessions will be rewarding”. He said.

Speaking further on the gains of the seminar, Comr. Abubakar said ” SHAC decided on this seminar as a vehicle to enlighten stakeholders on how to structure their intentions in ways that support ongoing efforts while speeding up recovery from ravages of terrorism, so that Nigeria’s economy can again be on a sound footing – devoid of the distractions of terrorism”.

He said there is need for experts to converge in order to properly educate stakeholders and practitioners in this field of their obligations to both state and the citizenry to ensure that international laws and protocols are strictly adhered to.

According to him the seminar is the Centre’s contribution to the non-combatant component of the anti-terrorism war.

“It is our contribution to the non-combatant component of the anti-terrorism war to which we invite other well-meaning individuals, domestic and international organisations to offer their own support; this is about humanity so all artificial constructs that limit us should be disposed of”. Abubakar added.
