Rep Katung Launches Skill Acquisition Programme In Southern Kaduna

The member representing Zongon Kataf /Jaba Local constituency of Kaduna State in the National Assembly, Hon Sunday Marshal Katung has launched an Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition programme for some selected women and youth.
The programme which commenced on Monday 19th June 2017 at the Bajju Town Hall Zonkwa in Zangon Kataf Local Government is a collaboration with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).

While declaring the programme opened, the chairman of the occasion, Dr John Marcus Ayuba, a renowned banker cum politician, who is a former Commissioner of finance in Kaduna state in his speech, said the programme was the beginning of a new dawn in defiance to the obtainable norm where most politicians distribute items such as motorbikes, bicycle and other items which are later either sold of by the beneficiaries or do not get to be utilised as expected.
Dr Ayuba also reiterated the fact that their is no other time for this great innovation than now especially because of the rate of unemployment which has gone sky high and increasing by the day and the resultant effect which is the high rate of crime and criminality also on the increase .This deviant behaviours according to him has always been linked to idleness and unemployment ,hence this programme is in no little way going to curb this criminality among other things. He commended the Hon Member for being focused and purposeful and pledge to also support such initiatives by the member at any given time.

Mr John Luka who led the SMEDAN team also gave a brief summary of what the programme entails. He maintained that primarily the programme is set to train unemployed women and Youth to be self reliant ,self employed as well as employers of Labour at the Long run. It’s also scheduled to run for five days focusing on Small case business Development/Entrepreneurship and Skill Acquisition in some key areas such as Soap making (Bar/Liquid), Detol, Izal, Bleach Making, Room freshener, Body cream , insecticide to mention but a few.

It is also meant to run for 5days from 19th-23rd June 2017 at the end of which participant will be issued certificate of attendance ,SMEDAN will also Help interested beneficiaries access to any source of funding ,information and synergy between them and there targeted market ,while also linking to any source of raw material as the case may be.

The Senior Legislative aid to the Hon Member Mr Francis Sani Zimbo while talking to Journalist asserted that over 170 beneficiaries are participating in the programme selected randomly from various units of the constituency and that all participant are entitled to free lunch daily ,while those coming from afar will be transported to and fro there various location to the venue also on a daily basis. He said the programme was well thought of and his principal is committed to it fully.

Hon Katung who was unavoidably absent at the first day of the event was reached on phone by the reporter where he claimed that he had to attend to other matters of National importance as assigned to him by the Speaker of the house of representative ,all the same he said the chairman of the occasion who also represented him is a seasoned and experienced administrator as such, his absence is not an issue ,but he promised to attend other sessions especially the closing day of the event.
Hon SMK is committed to eradicating Poverty , idleness and creating Jobs in his constituency .He also advised youths especially young graduates not to loose sleep or be over reliant on white collar jobs but instead think of how to be self reliant and that was Why he tagged the theme of the programme ‘Think big ….start Small…’. He also said he drew inspiration from the Holy Bible- Zecharia 4.10 “Do not despise the days of little Beginning”, and sees greatness emanating from the programme.

Some of the participant who were interviewed praised the Hon Member for this great initiative and are very optimistic of being more knowledgeable and productive to self and society after the programme.
