Fears gripped the ancient city of Kano over the suspected outbreak of Monkey Pox in the state yesterday, some parents forestall their wards from going to schools, others hurriedly returned home.
Last Thursday, rumours making rounds, alleging that a man suspected to have developed and exhibited symptom associated with the dreaded
Monkey Pox disease was hospitalised at Tiga General Hospital in
Bebeji local government area causing panic in the state.
Media reports indicating that the, sick man has absconded from the
hospital facility further increased fears among Kano residents.
Reacting, the Kano state government described as falsehood, the news
of the outbreak of the dreaded Monkey Pox in the state.
The public relations officer, Kano state ministry of Health, Mallam
Ismaila Gwammaja, said Kano populace are victims of misinformation.
Gwammaja disclosed that there is a suspected case of Monkey Pox, which
is subject to confirmation by medical experts.
He denied the rumor, that the man with the suspected case of Monkey
Pox escaped from the Tiga medical facility.
He disclosed that, a team of medical experts have been hurriedly
dispatch to Tiga General Hospital to evaluate the situation and
proceed to issue expert opinion.
