Osun Rerun: We Can’t Guarantee Your Safety, Security Men Told Journalists

Security men positioned in some of the polling units to monitor the rerun election in Osun State today have told journalists they can’t guarantee their safty.
At ward 8 unit 1 in Kajola in Ifon Orolu Local Government, the security men told newsmen and observers at the polling unit that they can not guarantee their safety.

Some electorate at Oke-odo, the linking road to the polling unit accused security men of conniving with some thugs deployed to the area on Wednesday night to disenfranchised them.
A journalist covering the rerun election told Elanza News the thugs only allow electorate loyal to a particular politician to vote.
“It was however observed by journalists that no agent was available at the the polling unit. They were said to have been threatened to leave. The unit has 393 voters,” the journalist said.
“Election is going on smoothly, so far, in Idi – Iya, ward 8 unit 4 in Orolu local government. 387 registered voters are in this unit. The voters’ turnout is massive. Both the youth, the old and the frail all come out enmass to exercise their franchise,” he said adding that the security presence is also heavy.
“Although, the voters are complaining that the process is slow, even as it is raining, but they attested that it has been seamless,” he added.
“A terrible mess is going on at all the units where rerun elections are going on in Osun State. PDP Voters are being prevented to get to the polling booths in Ifon Orolu, Oyere in Ife South and Ife North LGs. We need security help to stop these APC touts. The people have rejected APC but vampires are insisting to rape the democracy. We call on Police authorities to come to Voters rescue without delay,” a resident, Tunji Sanjo said.
He said in Ife South Ward 7 Unit 12, Adereti Village, Ward 8 Unit 10, Alutu Community Primary School, Albert Village, Ward 8 Unit 1, Kajola Village and Ward 8 Unit 4, Idi Iya Village was cordoned off by heavily armed policemen from whol claimed the were from the presidency.
“All party agents and journalists are not allowed into the polling units and is this a free and fair election being conducted by this administration? In Olode, voters not wearing identifiable caps are not allowed to vote. Soldiers not doing anything to check the illegality. All access roads to Oyere Alapata blocked by unidentifiable thugs. Security not seen,” he added.
