Residents of Afaka District and Maraban Rido in Igabi and Chikun Local Government areas of Kaduna state respectively have been called upon not to allow crisis or negative happenings in other communities spill over to their communities.
The District Head of Afaka who is also the Rubun Zazzau Alhaji Aliyu Abdulwahab Umar and the Village Head of Tudun Wada Kudansa Mr Garba Joseph Sauri stated this when a Non-governmental Organization “Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Nigeria visited the communities to make them take ownership of the peacebuilding process in their communities under its “One Family Under God” campaign.
The community leaders, who pledged to continue to mobilize their people against religious extremism and any form of reprisal attacks, commended the Foundation for coming to strengthen the peace and tranquility they are experiencing.
In a remark, the Country Director, GPF Nigeria, John Oko said the Foundation will continue to support and interface with all communities they are working with in her quest to built and sustain trust and respect amongst followers of different faiths.
Earlier, the Northern Co-coordinator GPF Nigeria, Rev. John Joseph Hayab said the Foundation is currently going back to communities they are working with to encourage them to continue to work for peace in their communities and support government and security agencies in their efforts to sustain peace and tranquility in Kaduna state and the Country as a whole.
He added that the Foundation will give a handbook to each participant that will aid and guide community volunteers of the four different groups (Religious leaders, Traditional/Community leaders, Youth and Women) in carrying out their responsibilities.
The four different group of volunteers are expected to be carrying out various community based activities among which the One Family Under God Women Savings and Loans scheme which will empower women economically and give them financial independence and also built trust and understanding between followers of the major religions in their various communities.
