Member Harps On Boosting Revenue Through Partnership Projects

A member representing Abuja south federal constituency in the House of
Representatives, Hon Zakari Angulu has advised chairmen of area
councils in the federal capital territory (FCT) to look inward and
come up with partnership projects with capable members of the public
to solve the problem of the shortfall in revenue allocation to the
area councils.

Speaking during a town hall meeting in commemoration of one year in
office of Kuje council chairman, Abdullahi Galadima, Angulu who was a
one-time chairman of Gwagwalada area council, expressed his joy at the
meeting describing it as a forum for bringing the people in the
picture to know the difficult situation the council leadership is
faced with.
The member of House also noted that partnership has become necessary
because while he was chairman, allocation was enough to cover major
projects while adding that the situation is not the case at present.
In his address, the chairman of Kuje area council, Abdullahi Galadima
stressed that on assuming office he was faced with liability profile
of N1.6 billion naira which contained contractual liabilities and
outstanding salaries, he also added that on assumption he met with a
revenue structure that was full of leakages while other sources were
untapped.
Galadima noted that a contract verification committee was set up and
that resulted in establishing the correct liability profile of the
area council.
He further noted that within his one year in office there have been
tremendous achievements in health, education, rural electricity,
rehabilitation of roads, and provision of potable water for 10 wards
in the council. ELANZANEWS.M
