The program which will hold at the Institution’s Conference Hall, Independence Layout, Enugu, by 9:30 am, will this time, feature as its keynote speaker, one of Nigeria’s most prolific leadership development experts, Dr Otive Igbuzor, who will speak on: “Building Transformative Leadership for Nigeria”.
In a pre-event press release signed by AfriHeritage’s executive director, Ufo Okeke-Uzodike, the Professor of Political economy said the keynote speech will provide a roadmap and proffer realistic solutions towards institutionalizing transformative leadership principles in Nigeria.
Professor Okeke-Uzodike who identified a good society as one founded on the principle of justice and grounded on good leadership wondered if it is really possible for any country to achieve meaningful and transformative development without good leadership. According to him, “effective political leadership entails the capacity to achieve good results by building policies that are evidence-based and that have strong buy-in from his (her) general public (through effective articulation, commitment and leadership)”.
In his further x-ray of the leadership question in Nigeria, the executive director rhetorically posited some questions: “What are the requirements to embed a culture of good leadership in Nigeria. In Nigeria, for instance, where transformative social progress has been stalled for decades despite ample supplies of human and material resources, the leadership question has become truly appropriate. Experience, knowledge and capacity to lead are relegated to the background”.
He said, “considering decades of leadership challenges in Nigeria and through much of Africa, the African Heritage Institution (AfriHeritage) has carefully packaged this edition of its national platform for public policy engagement – the Big Ideas Podium”. Professor Okeke-Uzodike stressed that the guest speaker, Dr Otive Igbuzor, a renowned leadership development strategist whose experience and service spans across decades of leadership training, consultancy and policy-making, will bring fresh perspectives and provide answers to the myriad of issues bothering on transformative leadership for the country.
It would be recalled that the Big Ideas Podium, a flagship program of AfriHeritage has in the past featured former public office holders, scholars of international repute, and calling, etc. Each event features a topical issue in the front burner of national discuss; the theme is usually handled by a national personality who leads the entire audience of intellectual and professional profundity to a socio-economic cum political engagement that usually leads to a number of suggestions in the form of communiqué as a way forward.
