Kaduna Government Returns Pastor To Prison

By Bomba Dauda, Kaduna

Officials working for the Kaduna State Government yesterday returned Pastor Ayuba Monday of the Calvary Baptist Church, Dei-Dei, Abuja to prison because the judge handling his case was not in court.
Pastor Monday, was arrested by operatives of the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) for allege comment on WhatsApp.
Even though the clergy man has denied making such comment on the social media platform, his woes were further compounded as Justice Uzaifa Machido of the Chief Magistrate Court 19, Ibrahim Taiwo road, sitting in Kaduna failed to appear in court.
Machido could not preside over the case of a Pastor arrested in Abuja but charged in Kaduna.
The failure of Justice Machido to appear in court and his earlier refusal to grant the bail application filed on 31st October, 2018 by counsel to the defendant, Barr. S.A Akanni made the Pastor to be returned to prison custody.
Pastor Monday is languishing at the Kaduna central prison in a case he argued, is bailable.

In the First Information Report of the team of operatives of the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB), it stated that, Pastor Monday was arrested over alleged write-up he composed and shared on Whatsapp (a social media platform).

However, counsel to the defendant, Barr Akanni refuted the allegation stating that his client is not responsible for the said write-up.
Barr. Akanni argued against the jurisdiction of the trial stating that the clergy man was arrested in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He said since his client was arrested in Abuja, he should have been tried in Abuja and not Kaduna. The case has been adjourned to 13th November, 2018 and Pastor Monday was returned to Prison custody.
