Kaduna State governor, Nasir Ahmed Elrufai has dashed out hope for immediate conduct of local government elections and for the third time, extended the tenure of his interim management committee chairmen.
Since coming into office on May 29 2015, Mr Elrufai have failed to conduct local government election in the state as mandated by the Nigeria constitution.
Despite protest, calls by members from both opposition parties, APC Akida and a court case instituted by a Kaduna base Lawyer, Barr James Kanyip for the conduct of the LGA election, it is the third time Mr Elrufai will be renewing the tenure of his appointees at the local government level.
This followed a resolution of the Kaduna State House of Assembly members who on Tuesday approved the extension of the tenure of 22 out of the 23 interim management chairmen.
The extension is with the exception of the interim management chairman of Kaduna South local government.
According to the members of the Assembly, the decision followed a request sent by Governor Nasiru El-Rufai, seeking the extension of the chairmen’s tenure for additional six months.
