Against the backdrop of allegations leveled against the Administrator, Kaduna State College of Education Gidan Waya, Professor Emmanuel Joseph Chom of indiscriminate travelling, he has explained that the journeys he undertook within the country and abroad were purposeful and have been adding value to the college, the State and the Country in general.
The Administrator who stated this in his office at Gidan Waya, while responding to questions from journalists on Tuesday, described the allegations as “they were not only mischievous, unfounded and pedestral discussions but intended to mislead and deny the general public of true situation”.
According to him, he travelled to Dubai for a leadership summit and also to South Africa to present a paper, with the knowledge and approval of both the commissioner of Education and the State Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai.
He said his visit to the State Ministry of Education and other related organizations, were not only to establish relationship, but to seek avenues of sourcing funds, assistance and equipment to moving the college forward, which are yielding positive results.
The Administrator explained that between the time he assumed office and now, a lot have been achieved amidst lean resources, some of which are restoration of discipline, productivity, blockage of financial leakages, rehabilitation of structures, maintenance of a clean environment and accessing of TETfunds, among others.
On the allegation of threat by the Administrator on Principal staff that stood on his way, professor Chom said it was incumbent on him to instill discipline to guarantee the attainment of set goals and objectives of establishing the college, stressing that he cannot “afford to do anything that will destroy the college” hence, his determination to make the college the best not only in Nigeria, but in west Africa.
Explaining further, the Administrator said when he took over, the institution as Administrator, the college has made available about 5000 NCE and other certificates for collection, after so many years of graduation by students without them and is making further plans to make available Original certificates for collection, available after three months of graduation from the college, aside the amnesty programme that is on the verge of completion for students who for various reasons could not get their certificates or statements of results.
The college he said plans to have more than fifty (50) offices for lecturers and a 8,000 capacity ICT Centre fully equipped with computers, adding that when he took over only six lecturers had PhD Degrees, but had more close to thirty now and additional ten are going through registration to access their PhD Studies.
In addition his administration has rehabilitated. Furnished and equipped the college staff school with furniture, Computers and modern technology teaching board, making it to become a model, befitting its status, aside from making the Vocational and technical Education laboratory functional, which by God’s Grace will be producing desks and chairs for all primary Schools in Southern Kaduna Public Schools, aside from rehabilitation of the college furniture.
