A ghastly motor accident along Kware-Gwadabawa road in Sokoto state has claimed reportedly 30 lives.
The accident involving a truck and a Toyota Spora vehicle which was said to be conveying a newly wedded bride and some members of her family occurred around 8pm last Sunday.
According to eyewitness accounts, the truck was coming from Illela local government area of Sokoto when one of its tyres busted and as such rammed into the Spora which was coming from Kware local government, resulting in the death of 30 people.
The victims were noted to be mostly women, children and elderly people.
However, the spokesman of the Sokoto state Sector Command, Aliyu Kanya said the accident was caused by over speeding and that it claimed 20 lives while 12 others including the bride sustained various degrees of injuries.
He said that the injured ones were responding to treatment at the hospital.
Similarly, the Police Public Relation Officer, Ibrahim Abrass said the accident killed 22 people while 13 sustained injuries.
He said that the number of the death could be more as some of the dead bodies were taken away by their relatives before the arrival of the police.
Abrass said that investigation was ongoing to ascertain the cause of the accident. (DailyTrust)
