In an effort to complement government’s commitment to key into global
best practices in environmental management and conservation of natural
resources, a nongovernmental organization, the Better Environmental
and Conservation Marshalls have commenced sensitization of Nigerians
across the federation.
The national coordinator of the body, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa, who stated
this in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital, added that as part of its nationwide
campaign and membership drive, conscious efforts and
pragmatic partnership is being made to engage more youth.
Alhaji Musa said although government has promulgated plethora of laws
aimed at checking negative environmental practices, little was done by
both federal, state and local governments to enforce the laws which
has led to gross abuse of the environment.
To this effect, he said the Better Environmental and Conservation
Marshalls have started recruiting volunteers across the country with a
view to ensuring that the public is better sensitized on the ills of
destroying the ecosystem.
He encouraged youth to register with the body in their various states
in order to ensure that every state of the federation benefit from the gains.
‘Our aim is to first of all partner with lawmakers and other policy
formulators on the need to design an enduring pragmatic framework
tailored to the peculiar challenges of the Nigerian society on how to
ensure the conservation of the environment’ he stated. ELANZANEWS.M
