Following the fallout between Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai and some influential politicians in the state, Elanza News gathered that two politicians from the northern part of Kaduna who served in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are set to join the el-Rufai camp ahead of the 2019 gubernatorial election.
Mr. Lawal Samaila Yakawada and Saidu Adamu who served at SSG and Commissioner of Information respectively during the Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa’s led PDP administration are to join the el-Rufai camp through appointments that will be announced soon, sources say.
Elanza News gathered that following the crisis rocking the APC in Kaduna state which led to the creation of APC Akida and Kaduna Restoration Group, the el-Rufai’s camp has resorted in luring some politicians with seeming goodwill to ensure that he remain in office beyond May 29, 2019.
el-Rufai was earlier quoted as saying that a first class student do not repeat a class. His assertion and subsequent appointments were interpreted by some political pundits as someone who might be gunning for the presidency in 2019.
Sources say there might be a change of calculation from the el-Rufai’s camp following what they described as unfavourable image the governor has gathered for himself since assuming power and the power play in the APC and the presidency.
It was further gathered that Yakawada might takeover from Uba Sani as political adviser while Saidu Adamu might share some responsibilities with Mr. Olumuyiwa Adekeye who doubles as a special adviser on media and publicity to the governor, and also oversee the ministry of information that was turned an agency by the el-Rufai’s led government.
Saidu Adamu who was commissioner for information during the Yakowa led government will return to the same portfolio to launder the image of el-Rufai and that of the government.
“The appointment of Saidu Adamu and that of Yakawada will be announce soon. Uba Sani might be answerable to Yakawada under a new portfolio while Olumuyiwa and Samuel Aruwan would now work with Saidu Adamu if the appointments are announced,” a source said.
It would be recalled that there was a leaked information from El-Rufai’s consultants on his planned 3-month visit to Southern Kaduna to woo voters there for his 2019 comeback.
While the people of Southern Kaduna might not forget in a hurry, the unfavourable appointments, policies of the government and ‘hard utterances’ of the governor against it people, the region seems to have remain uncapture by el-Rufai’s supporters.
Elanza News report that one of the leaked information was that el-Rufai would roll out appointments to several young people in Southern Kaduna as a means of enticing them as foot soldiers to prepare the ground for him in his second gubernatorial term attempt.
“Right now those appointments have been prepared and will be announce in the next few weeks. The appointments are mostly technical assistants or other low appointments. Also, a respected former high ranking government official is about to be brought in by the el-Rufai’s camp as the new SA political.”
“Uba Sani, the current SA political will be move to another portfolio due to certain actions he took which some people say did not go down well with the governor,” another source said.
