The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) sympathises with the people of Kwoi, in Jaba Local Government who experienced series of earth tremors on Sunday. The Union further sympathised with the people of Sambang Daji who also witnessed another earth tremor early Monday morning.
In view of such strange and unusual occurrences within our zone, SOKAPU wishes to appeal to all sons and daughters of Southern Kaduna to offer prayers to God Almighty seeking for protection from such natural reactions with potentials for disaster.
While still compiling a comprehensive report of the incidents, SOKAPU pleads for calm from those in the affected areas and joins millions of its people to console with those that have been affected. It also appeals to unaffected residents to offer help and comfort in whatever form to the needy.
SOKAPU further commends the state government for its prompt directive to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to mobilise to the affected areas and comfort the citizens. The effective manner that SEMA handles the situation would go a long way in helping to calm some of the frightened citizens of the area that have abandoned their homes for shelter elsewhere.
SOKAPU is also urging the state government to further directs SEMA to immediately come to the aid of families that had been displaced in Sanga Local Government due to the persistent onslaught from herdsmen.
The UNION further asks the state government to urgently set up a strategy that would educate its people on the Geological/Scientific cause of such tremors and what to do when one happens. This would be useful to people that had never seen nor experienced any.
