Ahead of the March 8, 2017 date for the closure of the Nnamdi
AzikweAirport, Abuja, Nigerian Railway Corporation has declared its
preparedness to transport high profile dignitaries and Diplomats by
rail line From Kaduna to Abuja and back.
Thisdeclaration is coming as Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria
(FAAN) has earmarked N10million as fund for the payment of transit
service that will be provided by the Corporation for Kaduna to Abuja
bound passengers and vice versa.
Speaking on the preparedness of the Corporation to take advantage of
the gesture Director of Operations, of the Corporation, Niyi Alli said
that management of the Corporation has scheduled the schedule of the
Kaduna to Abuja train service to synchronize with flight schedule of
international Airlines that will be flying into Kaduna.
He explained further that the schedule of the train will ensure
seamless transit of the air flight passengers into the train.
Hitherto the Minister of State Aviation Senator Sadi Sirika said that
the Federal Airport Authorityof Nigeria has earmarked by N103 for the
payment of service that will be provided by the Corporation.
He disclosed that over 400Toyota Hilux vehicles will be deployed by
the police for the provision of security for the high profile
dignitaries, Diplomats and other categories of passengers along the
rail and road corridors during the six weeks period that the Abuja
Airport will be closed.
The Managing Director FAAN Engr.Saleh Dunoma stated that due to the
temporary closure, Kaduna International Airport will serve as the
alternate from 8th March, till the completion of the rehabilitation
adding that normal operations will re-commence at the Nnamdi Azikiwe
International Airport, Abuja on the 19th April, 2017.
According to a statement signed by the Acting General Manager
Corporate Affairs Mrs. Harrietta Yakuba the Authority has put in place
necessary facilities that will ensure the safety and security of all
airport users and seamless facilitation at the Kaduna International
The MD appealed to all stakeholders to bear with the Authority as it
continues to upgrade facilities in compliance with NCAA and ICAO
Annexes, which bothers on security and safety at the airports. ELANZANEWS.M
