Association of Table Water Producers of Nigeria (ATWAP) yesterday called on the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to collaborate with them in order to rid the country of fake water producers.
The national president of the association, Mrs Clementina Avivie who made the call during their inaugural meeting in Abuja, added that the group has resolved to go after fake water producers through collaboration with NAFDAC.
“Some companies are producing water without NAFDAC approval. Some of them are just producing the water without upholding to the rules and regulations of NAFDAC. As an association, we are ready to partner with NAFDAC in other to expose this people,” Clementina said.
The president said even though the rate of water borne diseases in Nigeria have reduced drastically since the commencement of mass production of table and sachet water, added that if some water producers are not properly check, there will be outbreak of Cholera and other water borne disease.
“The blame on cholera and other water bone disease will be pointed at us if we did not step up. We want NAFDAC to collaborate with us to exposed people producing fake table water. We have state chairmen, Local government and National executives.”
“We are making sure that the quality of water is wholesome. We can help NAFDAC do their work effectively. After working hours, we are the ones that will apprehend people who do shoddy deals if NAFDAC collaborate with us,” Clementina added.
The table water producers president also called on the Federal government to help them tackle the problem of multiple taxation.
“Federal government should bring us on board because we are contributing to the growth and development of Nigeria. If our sector is not properly taken care of, many youth in Nigeria will be unemployed. So, issue of multiple taxation should be check,” She said.
Clementina said some water producers who don’t want to be regulated have failed to register with them as members. ELANZANEWS.
