A former international and member of the NFF technical committee, Garba Lawal has lauded the upcoming international friendly between the Super Eagles and Argentina as he said it is a good test for the former African champions.
The three time African champions and two time world champions will face each other in a high -profile international friendly in Russia on Tuesday, November 14 at the Krasnodar Arena stadium.
The General Secretary of the NFF, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi however said the match is subject to approval by the world football governing body, FIFA.
In a chat with Daily Trust yesterday, the former international expressed excitement at the match as he said it is the kind of game that the Eagles need as they prepare for their sixth World Cup.
He said the match will enable the team to know its areas of weakness and how to effect corrections before the World Cup proper.
“The friendly against Argentina is a good test for the Super Eagles. If they play and are defeated, they will try to know why they lost.
“It is a step in the right direction because what they need now is grade A friendly matches. They have to keep playing even against weaker teams so that if they are beaten, they will still try to find out why they lost to a weaker team,” he said.
Lawal also said Super Eagles players will also be excited because every good player dreams to play against some of the best opponents in the world.
He said when he was in Roda JC in the Dutch topflight, they were always looking forward to playing against Ajax.
“I know the players too will be happy to face Argentina and I believe they will give a good account of themselves. It will help them build their confidence going into the World Cup,” he said. (Daily Trust)
