Arewa Young Lawyers Reject Youth Quit Notice On Igbos

A group known as Arewa Young Lawyers Forum has rejected a quit notice slammed on all Igbos in Northern Nigeria by some youth groups.

In a statement signed by Abubakar Kurawa (Esq)for the Arewa Young Lawyers Forum, the group said it is dazed by the so-called press conference organized by a coalition of Northern youth groups that gave Igbo’s in the North a quit notice of three months.

“We find the so-called “Kaduna Declaration” as uncalled for, inciting and against the grain of civilized conduct. It is unfortunate that  agitations and counter-agitations over Biafra have made some Northern youth groups gullible to taking the path of reactionaries.
Our position is therefore as follows:

“1. We dissociate ourselves from the Kaduna Declaration because it was done in bad taste and it might have been informed by narrow-minded sentiments.”

“2. We take exception to the use of foul language in expressing opposition to an idea by our southern neighbours”

“3. We strongly disagree and condemn the press conference by the coalition, which seemed to have unnecessarily overheated the polity”

“4. We admonish youths in the North to henceforth adopt civility and matured approach to national debates and not promote hate and sentiments.”

“5. We hope the Kaduna incident would serve as an eye-opener for all youth organizations in the North.”

“6) We also wish to remind the organizers of the unfortunate event that they are signatories to Owerri Peace Declaration organized and led by Major Hamza Almustapha, in which all warring parties agreed to stay with each other in peace.”

“7) That the opinions expressed at the Kaduna Declaration were merely an expression against the utterances of Nnamdi Kanu alone and not Igbo
 people as a nation.”
