A/Ibom Police Arrests 140 Suspected Criminals

Determined to rid the society of undesirable elements, the police in
Akwa Ibom says it has arrested no fewer than 140 suspected criminals
for various criminal activities including armed robbery, Cultism,
Kidnapping and child theft.

The state Police Commissioner Mr. Muazu Zubairu Halilu,

who paraded the suspects before newsmen yesterday at the Command
Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, in Uyo said listed items recovered from
some of the suspects to include AK 47 rifle with three magazines and
eight rounds of live ammunition; nine locally made pistols and seven
single barrel guns with seven live cartridges; a Toyota Camry Car, a
Toyota Corolla, N2, 890, 000 million cash and assorted items used by
the cultists.

“You will recall that upon assumption of duty as the 22nd Commissioner
of Police, Akwa Ibom State on July 11th, 2017, I clearly stated that I
will champion a new course of policing in the state, in line with the
force directives”, he said.

On assumption of office, “the security architecture of the state was
clearly studied and repositioned for effective service delivery”,
adding that he is leading policing that focused on the people and
service-oriented.

According to him, this is in line with global best practices that
place emphasis on human rights driven policing, intelligence led
policing, community based policing and problem solving approach.

“Strategies put in place in ensuring that crime rate in Akwa Ibom
State is brought to the barest minimum are yielding fruitful results
with the arrest of a total of 140 suspects before you.”, he stated.

Muazu explained that community based policing is geared towards
increasing public confidence on the Police and working in partnership
with members of the public in a friendlier and peaceful manner.

The State Police boss who thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel and the good
people of the state for their support warned all criminals operating
in the state to relocate elsewhere as he will do everything necessary
to rid the state of all forms of criminality.

Group Drums Up Support for Gov Emmanuel Second Term
A socio cultural group in Akwa Ibom, Ibom Development and Empowerment
Assembly (IDEA) has unanimously endorsed Governor Udom Emmanuel for
the 2019 gubernatorial election.

The group said they had appraised the performance of the Governor in
the past two years and were happy with his effort in ensuring that the
state become a destination.

In a communique issued by the board of trustee of the group shortly
after swearing-in national, state and chapter Exco members
yesterday in Uyo, the group expressed satisfaction with the giant
strides of Governor Udom Emmanuel, in all sector since he assumed
office particularly in the area of road construction,
industrialisation drive, improved power supply, payment of pension and
gratuities to retired public servants as well as payment of workers’
salaries.

The group also commended the governor’s achievement in the area of
Agriculture to ensure food sufficiency in the state and empowerment of
youths and women through the provision of soft loan and skill
accusation.

All these achievement the group noted would not have been attainable
if the Governor was not prudent in the management of the state’s
resources especially at this period of economic recession.

Consequently, the group says it has resolve to mobilise support for
the Governor to win a second term in the 2019 election to enable him
continue his good work and lead Akwa Ibom to the land of fulfillment.

It therefore call on well meaning citizens of the state to join hands
with the Governor in his onerous task of making Akwa Ibom a better
place for all.
