One of the aspirants in the just concluded gubernatorial primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, Shuaibu Idris Mikati said himself and others are ready to defeat the state governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai.
Mikati who also dismissed rumours that he has left the party, added that he can’t be a spoiler to their chances in 2019.
Mikati who was reacting to the rumours, said even though another political party wanted to offer him an automatic ticket to run for the office of the governor of Kaduna State, added that it will jeopardize the chances of the PDP and won’t be a party to it.
“It’s not true at all. I have not left the PDP,” Mikati said adding, “I am still a member of the party.”
“Naturally given my pedigree and the level of acceptability i have from the electorate, certain political parties who feel strongly that my vision, ideas and ideals are in sync with theirs have approached me to consider joining their party.”
“It’s extremely gratifying to receive such offers but one has to be careful. I do not wish to be looked at as someone disparate to contest governorship position at all cost. Moreover there was an unwritten gentleman agreement between all the PDP aspirants for governor position to support whoever emerged as a winner,” Mikati said affirming that all of them that contested in the primary election will support Isa Ashiru Kudan to win in 2019.
Mikati who thanked his supporters for the sacrifices, said he will be eternally grateful to them for the pains they all went through.
“It’s sad and most unfortunate that we were betrayed, cheated and above all deceived by many. I call on all my supporters to remain calm, law abiding and steadfast. We should all leave everyone to his or her conscience,” Mikati added.
