An abandoned two months baby boy has been found in a multi-colored cloth at Maigizo Village, Fantswam Chiefdom in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna state, last Thursday night.
Confirming the incident, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp Desk Officer in charge of Child Protection Unit, Mr. Manchan Matthew Sunday said the child was discovered by “some good Samaritans”, who were passing by and heard the cry of the baby in the dark”.
The NSDC Child Rights Officer explained that, the two good Samaritans, Dominic Kaduna and Obadiah Joshua informed the Civil Defence that passing along the road, their attentions were drawn by the hysterical cry of a child, where they went and found the child in wrapped cloth.
The duo reported the incident to the NSDC who went to the scene, took the child to the social welfare unit of Jema’a Local Government.
The Civil Defence Officer further explained that he went together with the social welfare officer, took the child to the Sir Ibrahim Patrick Yakowa General Hospital Kafanchan to confirm his state of health, from where he was taken to the Kafanchan Orphanage Home, and discovered its closure as a result of recent rationalization exercise, which left no staff to manage it.
Mean while, the Administrator of Jema’a Local Government, Alh. Yusuf Mu’azu Usman directed the social welfare to take care of the child, pending when he will be taken to a better Orphanage.
A source, who pleaded anonymity said the mother of the child who hails from Kaura Local Government has been arrested and is under Police custody in Kaura Local Government for interrogation.
Efforts to get details from the Police are still on, at the time of filling this report.
