Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom yesterday suspended the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA mr Boniface Ortese.
Mr. Ortese was suspended barely five days after the main camp housing
over 4,500 victims of the flood disaster at the Makurdi Ultra Modern
International Market was closed down on Monday 9th October 2017.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and
Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Titus Zam is now to oversee activities of the
agency.
Weekened Leadership gathered that the governor is no longer happy with
the former SEMA boss due to his high handedness in handling affairs in
the camp, especially his alleged continuous tuning battles with the
Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu who is chairman of the flood
management committee.
When contacted, the embattled SEMA boss who declined comments said
remorsefully that “No comment yet”, but Chief Press Secretary to the
governor, Mr. Terver Akase said he was suspended “over
insubordination”.
Correspondent observed that Mr. Zam who is now overseeing activities
at the camp yesterday started the disbursement of N5000 to the IDP’s
as transport to enable them go back to their homes.
It could be recalled that the First camp manager at the Makurdi Ultra
Modern International Market, Mr. James Iorhuna was also sacked in a
similar circumstances.
Engr. Abounu who confirmed the camp manager’s sack explained that he
was relieved of his appointment for not following his instructions.
